Day 32: Podcasts

day32

I used to have a long(ish) commute to work.  My car had a CD player and an AM/FM radio.  More and more I found myself listening to sports talk radio on my drive to and from work.  I like sports, but I would not call myself a die hard sports fan.  Yet there I was to and from work listening to men talk about the Lions, Tigers and Red Wings day after day.  Then it dawned on me.  I was just trying to connect with people!  I was listening to other people talk because it felt like a friend was in the car with me instead of me being by myself.  If that is not the most introverted solution to a connecting with people problem, then I don’t know what is!

I still really enjoy listening to people talk.  The creation of podcasts has opened up new worlds to me.  I know longer have to listen to talk radio.  I can download episodes on a variety of topics with a variety of opinions from all over the world.  Podcasts have helped me get through some really difficult times.  They were a way to escape when I needed a break, but my newly adopted son needed me to be near him 24/7.  They have taught me so much.  They have encouraged me and they have challenged me.

Kevin and I even have our own podcast.  It has been on hiatus for awhile, but we would love to get back to it.  It was a fun way to make sure we were connecting each week.  I learned things about him that I had never known before and it was exciting to create something together.

My Overcast podcast app is overflowing with episodes to listen to right now, but there are a few podcasts I tend to listen to as soon as they release an episode.  What podcasts do you listen to?
